Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Prof. Dr. Durmuş Günay Library was awarded the “Accessibility Logo Flag” within the scope of the 4th Accessible Libraries Workshop.

The “4th Accessible Libraries Workshop” was held on 12-13 May 2025 on the occasion of the World Disability Week, hosted by the Presidential National Library in cooperation with the General Directorate of Support and Financial Services of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, the General Directorate of Disabled and Elderly Services of the ASHB, the General Directorate of Libraries and Publications of the KTB and Manisa Celal Bayar University with the organization of Turkey Accessible Informatics Platform.

On behalf of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN); BEUN Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Bekir Hakan Bakkal, Head of Library and Documentation Department Osman Demir, Librarian Hasan Üstünkol attended the workshop. Within the scope of the workshop, BEUN Library and Documentation Department Head Osman Demir participated in the “Material Accessibility” group and Librarian Hasan Üstünkol participated in the “Spatial Accessibility” group.

At the end of the workshop, “Accessibility Logo Flag” was presented to the libraries that provide barrier-free accessibility opportunities. On behalf of BEUN Prof. Dr. Durmuş Günay Library, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Bekir Hakan Bakkal was presented the “Accessibility Logo Flag”.

BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer made a statement about the “Accessibility Logo Flag” received by BEUN Library:

"As BEUN, we agree that the success we have achieved nationally and internationally has always been due to our student-oriented approach. In addition to its academic, cultural, sports and artistic achievements, our university always aims to educate its students on humanistic and ethical values by focusing on the world of today and the future. Our efforts especially for disabled students and disabled individuals bear the fruits of success as a result of the steps we take within the scope of social responsibility, and position our University among exemplary universities in this field as in every field. For this reason, we welcomed with great pride and happiness that our library received the ‘Accessibility Logo Flag’ as a result of our inclusive, integrative, barrier-eliminating teaching concept. With these feelings and thoughts, I would like to express my gratitude to our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who made great efforts to carry out these activities, and to the managers of all relevant ministries, valuable staff and stakeholders. I would also like to thank all our academic and administrative staff, especially our Library management, who contributed to this success on behalf of our University."
